OnScreen/Recorder

Why is my OneScreen freezing/crashing when I am using it?

OneScreen performance issues are usually caused by limited processing power being shared across your browser and other running applications. Updating Chrome, closing background apps, and restarting your computer resolve most cases.

Common Symptoms

You might be experiencing this issue if you've noticed:

  • The OneScreen Chrome extension slowing your computer down, or stopping a recording mid-session
  • Your screen freezing during recording
  • The countdown timer on the extension getting stuck on the same number

Why This Happens

This issue often comes down to your computer's available processing power. You may notice slower performance even outside of OneScreen — for example, sites, images, or videos taking longer to load than usual. The good news is there are several steps you can take to give OneScreen the best possible environment to perform well.

Recommended Fixes

1. Update Chrome to the latest version.
See Google's guide on updating Chrome. After updating, close and relaunch your browser completely.

2. Close other windows and background applications.

  • Mac: Press Cmd + Alt + Esc to open Force Quit. Select an application and click Force Quit.
  • Windows 10: Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager. Click More Details for additional info, or select a task and click End Task.

3. Restart your computer.

  • Mac: Click the Apple logo in the top-left corner, then click Restart.
  • Windows 10: Click Start > Power > Restart.

4. Make sure your computer is plugged into a power source.

5. Reinstall the OneScreen extension.
Uninstall OneScreen, then reinstall it here.

6. Test on a different computer, if available.
This helps determine whether the issue is specific to your machine or a broader bug.
